A new report lambaste the Federal Government for “stifling Medical Marijuana Research.”
Researchers at Brookings Institution are sounding off on a Federal Government which they believe prevent any advances in the use of medical marijuana. The scathing report indicates that that marijuana, both due to prejudice and legal confusion, is treated differently than other medical research and limits research to anecdotal cases and Doctors playing it as it goes.
Of all the controlled substances that the federal government regulates, cannabis is treated in unique ways that impede research. Specifically, the U.S. government has held back the medical community’s ability to conduct the type of research that the scientific community considers the experimental gold standard in guiding medical practice. Thus, the use of cannabis for medical treatment is happening in states based largely on anecdotal or limited science. In many cases, patients and doctors operate according to a learn-as-you-go approach—a situation that is inexcusably the fault of federal policies failing to keep pace with changing societal views and state-level legal landscapes.
The Federal government’s control over limiting medical marijuana research is likely also spawned by pharmaceutical companies not wanting to lose any revenue. Natural, alternative cures are not nearly as profitable for disease as symptom based pills and concoctions produced in laboratories. This report is not surprising, but it is nice to see someone call them out publicly for what’s becoming a criminal concealment of research which could greatly help the human race. The report, written by John Hudak and Grace, Wallack, calls out bureaucratic and cultural barriers as the core components which hinder the research.
And don’t think for a second that states with legalized marijuana are doing better. In most cases, Federal law intrudes their ability to perform research. Marijuana is still existing in a legal underbelly that’s rather confusing and undefined at the Federal level. In order to solve the issue, the Federal Government would need to classify marijuana as a schedule 2 drug. In this way they allow for research to freely happen.
But it is unlikely that the Federal Government will make anything easy for us, seeing that pharmaceutical companies donate huge funds as lobbyist. Where there is money, there is power. Marijuana could greatly improve the lives of so many people, we are in a sad way for not expanding and evolving in this area.
When I think of bone broth, I think of grandma’s house when I was a child. A sort of peppery, onion smell filling the room. A hot stove, a simmering pot. Bone broth is making a comeback, so much so, that places in NYC are now starting to serve it up, like Starbucks serves coffee. Bone broth is going mainstream you say? Say it isn’t so. Well, it is very so. And hey, that’s a good thing. We live in a society that gulps down too much coffee and soda, why not introduce people to bone broth? It just makes sense.
I am going to break down some benefits of Bone Broth, as well as give my laymen’s spin over the matter because quite honestly, it can be a bit confusing. Let’s start with the benefits.

Digestion and gut health is huge business for your body. It might even be number 1, but rarely is it considered that high in the equation. Gut health means brain health. The gelatin found in bone broth is great for healing the intestines, which helps with leaky gut syndrome. Whether you have leaky gut syndrome or not, you want to keep your gut and intestines primed.

We spend all this time on our hair and skin (and ladies, on your nails), then why not add bone broth into your diet and get the full on hair/ nails / skin health bomb? Bone broth has collagen in it. Yep, you’ve seen that as a supplement in the vitamin section. Well, it’s naturally found inside of bone broth. So when you drink bone broth, you get an infusion of health into your hair and nails and skin. You get it direct from source. My nails grow really fast now that I drink bone broth. That’s a great indicator of healthy being!
Some researchers believe that consuming gelatin, which is found in bone broth, before sleep helps you sleep deeper and more soundly. Gelatin contains the amino acid glycine. That’s hooked to your brain’s neurotransmitters. Nope, it won’t put you to sleep if you drink it on the way out the door, quite the opposite. But at night, it will help relax you.

Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus. Those are found in large quantities in bone broth. Those minerals help your body heal injured bones. As well, helps your joints.

Now, let’s get into the details of actually making and drinking this stuff.
How does it taste? Great. If you make it right, it tastes really good. I absolutely love drinking it in the morning time. It taste a lot like chicken soup or onion soup (pending you use the onions).
Can’t I just buy it at the store? No. You can’t. You will see “bone broth” for sale, lots of people use that to cook food in crock pots. But that stuff does not contain the collagen, which you need. To get what you need, you just have to make it.
How do I buy the bones? This can be tricky. There are online sources for this, but many of those sources run out of the bones due to lots of people wanting to buy them. If you have a local butcher, I’d visit them and ask. Grocery stores are a maybe. Whole Foods tends to get them in once a week, but you will have to ask them what day and if you can call and have some put aside. But buyer beware…. Lots of meat in this country is just plain bad. If a cow or chicken was injected with hormones and antibiotics, you probably don’t want the bones which stored the life of the animal. Basic grocery stores are probably bad when it comes to broth bones. If you want to potentially look online to order, start here. They look pretty good, though I admit to never having ordered from them.
Should it be chicken or beef bones or both? You can mix. Or you can do specific ones. I don’t think it really matters. But, you want specific types of bones. Knuckles, neck bones, bones that have the collagen fillers in them. Ask for “soup bones” for broth at the butcher, or of course, use a trusted online source.
How do you cook it? I use a crock pot, but you can use a p0t on the stove. I roast the bones first for about 40 minutes. I then put the bones in the crock pot. I also put an onion chopped 3 ways, a few carrots, pink himalayan salt, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (most important, see below) and a tomato. I don’t want to get overly detailed here, to be honest, because I am a known simpleton. Anything I make will be simple and that might not be your “cup of broth.” The Internet is filled with some amazing recipes on how to make it, I’d encourage you searching around. Wellness Mama has a good instructional on it that I encourage you check out.
I can’t get it to “gel.” Ok, this is the number one complaint. For starters, make darn sure you put the apple cider vinegar in it as mentioned above. This will help draw out and extract the gelatin. Other considerations are cooking time (did you cook it long enough). I cook for around 40 hours in the crock pot. How was your bone to water ratio? Here is a good troubleshooting article on food renegade. But don’t panic….when I first started making my own bone broth, gelling was hit or miss for me. And I would always think, “so is it worthless now?” No, not at all. It is still GREAT for you. Many people put on sad failure faces as if what they made is worthless without gelling, this isn’t true at all.

I take two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar every day. And the results have been nothing short of amazing. My skin looks 100 times better (softer, smoother, glowing). I have more energy. My digestion is improved. Whenever I take a shot of it, I feel immediate energy. So how do I do it and what does it taste like?
Well first, I don’t do it straight. I did that a few times, but I felt it was too harsh and some reports indicate that such a high level of condensed acidity may not be a good way to take it. Still, many do, but it isn’t for me. I simply take a glass of water and put two tablespoons of it into the water. Then I drink the water.
The taste is bitter and the first few sips you take you probably won’t like a whole lot. I know that I didn’t. But, knowing the reported health benefits, I stuck with it. Now I look forward to it. It taste a bit bitter, slightly acidic (when mixed with water). It goes down almost with a warm sensation.
What kind do you want? You want unfiltered apple cider vinegar (like Bragg’s). This is the only kind I buy. I like to keep things as simple as possible. I can see “the mother” floating in it, which is what you want when you buy Apple Cider Vinegar. Remember, there are lots of frauds out there, I’d suggest just going with what’s mentioned here. Bragg’s brand is found at most grocery stores, and if you can’t find it there, order it online.
What does it do?
It can help with weight loss. It can make you feel fuller, increase satiety, which in turn causes you to want to eat less (and less bad foods).
According to Prevention.com, just a tbsp of ACV when you feel a cold coming on can really help your cause.
Adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice, to a glass of water helps to alkalinize the body. Creating an alkaline environment helps kill bacteria and viruses. Start drinking it at the first sign of illness and repeat several times a day until the symptoms subside.
It can help with skin issues, such as bug bites and cuts or scrapes. I put this stuff on bug bites all the time, it kills the itch and the bug bite dies off incredibly fast. This is one of my main uses for it! It also has been said that it can help get rid of warts.
ACV contains potassium, which can help your muscles with recovery and help keep you energized.
It helps with digestion and heartburn. ACV reportedly will improve the acid content of your stomach, thereby resulting in less heartburn or indigestion.
You can use it to clean with! It can also kill pathogens and bacteria, making it the perfect natural cleaning agent solution. Trying to conceive or already pregnant? A new study shows these nail polishes may be harmful.
Pregnant women (or those trying to conceive) who like keeping their nails polished may not like what this recent study has revealed. A coauthored study (Duke University and EWG) has found evidence that a chemical called triphenyl phosphate exist in the bodies of women who used common nail polishes. TPHP is asuspected endocrine-disrupting chemical which is also found in many plastics. The reason this is problematic is because a number of studies have show that TPHP serves as an endocrine disruption, which can mess with hormone function. It has been shown to cause disruptions in the reproductive process.
The study found that when women applied nail polish with TPHP directly to their nails, the levels of a biomarker of that chemical in their urine increased sharply. Technically, the researchers tested the women’s urine for a chemical called diphenyl phosphate or DPHP, which is created when the body metabolizes TPHP.
Most studies of TPHP involve investigations of its effects on cells and test animals. A few have associated the chemical with changes in the hormone and reproductive systems of humans. The most recent studies are striking—they suggest that TPHP interacts with a protein central to regulating the body’s metabolism and production of fat cells. Scientists are conducting more investigations to discover whether, in fact, TPHP contributes to weight gain and obesity.
So which nail polishes contain is?
TPHP is listed on the ingredient labels of a wide array of nail polishes now on the market. Fully 49 percent of more than 3,000 nail polishes and treatments compiled in EWG’s Skin Deep database disclose that they contain TPHP. Even worse, some polishes contain it but don’t disclose it.
It is worth noting that the study was only performed on 26 women. That said, chemicals and toxins are, well, chemicals and toxins. If you’ve been trying to conceive and found difficulties, this may fall under the “no stone unturned” category. Here is a list of brands containing the chemical.
The Cranberry is super powerful. It can help prevent certain types of cancers. It can help heal urinary tract infections. Are you eating them, though?
Though it is almost two weeks off the mark, the people of Wisconsin have began to reap the benefits of their official state fruit, the cranberry. The mark was missed due to warmer temperatures, but they’ve now hit their stride. Cranberries need cooler air to ripen into the perfect edible color.
“Before the growers can deliver, the fruit needs to reach a certain minimal color. Because of the warm weather, the fruit hasn’t colored up,” Lochner said
Wisconsin leads the country in cranberry production with about 60% of the nation’s supply — grown on 21,000 acres in 20 counties in the northern and central parts of the state.
So what are the benefits of these beautiful, often forgotten, fruits?

Also, resveratrol, piceatannol, and pterostilbene are present in cranberries. You’ve probably heard of the first one before (dark chocolate, red wine), but maybe not so much the following two. Improve Immune System: proanthocyanidins are found in cranberries. And they help the body’s immune system fight off colds and flus. (source) “A study published in December 2013 states that cranberry supplementation enhances immunity and resulted in fewer symptoms of the cold and flu. Cranberry contains organic acids and phytochemicals including proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins with significant antioxidant activity.”
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): This is its most popular function which most people already know, but it can’t be stated enough.(source)“One study looked at women who had a history of urinary tract infections caused by E. coli bacteria. Women who drank 1.7 ounces of cranberry-lingonberry juice concentrate every day for six months lowered their risk of getting a UTI by 20% compared to women who didn’t use any intervention.”
Cranberries are also said to be able to help prevent tooth decay, help you lose weight, and help prevent kidney stones. They truly are a super power when it comes to nutrient density. And what else, they aren’t super expensive, either? So why then aren’t more people eating them? Well, they are, especially the people of Wisconsin.
Today’s children are the subject of labels. Every action or reaction is a symptom, rather than a unique personality trait. While this isn’t me saying that all medications are bad or that all labels aren’t correct, it is me saying that Pharmaceutical companies are out of bounds creating labels in the name of selling pills. Some kids are actually creative, intelligent, compassionate beings. I thought this video was worth a share.

Monsanto is laying off over 2000 employees, their revenue is way down, and they’ve had their spirit crushed all over the globe. Well, mostly over the globe. The United States remains a safe harbor for the seed modification company which has aspirations of a global takeover. With House Bill 1599 in progress, Monsanto still can come out ahead even in the face of all this global adversity if the bill is to become a law. And the fact is, that’s a reality we may likely be looking at.
The bill takes away the people’s ability to know what’s in their food, it also tramples on state’s rights. GMO foods will be looked at as just as safe as it’s non-gmo competitor (seriously). The FDA would not be able to object to any of this.

New imagery of ancient human remains from Pompeii have revealed quite a discovery, and maybe not the discovery researchers were looking for. In 79 A.D., the city of Pompeii was destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Most of the people seemed to be killed by head injuries (think building collapsing, rubble falling from rooftops), which caused researchers to open up a project performing CAT scans on the skull remains. But possibly the most intriguing item that was found wasn’t revealed in brain science, but more in dental science: The people of Pompeii had perfect teeth.
AGI) Naples, Sept 29 – A multi-layer CAT scan on 18 of Pompeii’s body casts revealed that the victims of the disaster had perfect teeth – barring cavities and other pathologies that can only be revealed with different medical examinations – and fractured craniums. The analysis of the casts, which were restored in August, therefore debunks two long-held myths on ancient Romans. The findings support the inhabitants of the merchant city at the foothill of Mount Vesuvius had no immediate discernible need for dentists and likely died from head injuries caused by crumbling roofs or walls during volcanic event in 79 AD rather than suffocation.
No need for dentist. Many of you have read my oil pulling article (here). This isn’t me saying dentist are useless, but this is me saying that we use them way too much. And this study on Pompeii’s remains is more evidence of such. Taking care of your teeth means eating right. So then, you might ask, what were the people of Pompeii eating? Let’s answer that by starting with what they didn’t eat: The Standard American Diet, consisting of sodas, candy, muffins, donuts, fast food and an overabundance of refined carbohydrates in general.
The ancient civilization of Pompeii, instead, ate a diet filled with lean meats and fruits / vegetables (think Mediterranean diet). Here’s additional clarification from The Telegraph:
