The American Academy of Lifestyle Medicine gives weight loss and health a simple formula:
- Eat Real Food
- Eat mostly fruits and vegetables. When you eat animal protein, eat grass-fed beef, wild caught fish, and free-range chicken.
- Don’t eat so much. Control your portion sizes.
You don’t have to avoid specific foods or your favorite dessert. It’s about eating mindfully. Magic can happen in your life and your health when you follow this plan. Watch how Eric Naiman used MyFitnessPal to lose 176 pounds over two years.
MyFitnessPal is a free app that has a comprehensive database of over 3,000,000 foods and more than 350 exercises. It’s the best way I’ve found to eat Consciously – even if you want to indulge in a Dairy Queen meal!
It may not be fast, but doing the Right Thing, Long Enough absolutely change your life.
A book that could help you change your life is The One Thing, by Gary Keller. My takeaway from this incredible book were two key points:
- What is the One Thing that you can do right now that will make everything else you do easier or unnecessary? This is bigger than “setting priorities.” It’s the Biggest Priority….and that’s not always easy to sort out. The book shows you how.
- The One Thing book also exposed a study that shows it takes 66 days to create – and sustain – a new habit. Not 21 days as stated by Benjamin Franklin, but 66 days. Two months and a week.
Be consistent. You can do it.
